Police Protection
Tagbilaran
City has a total police force of 70 organic personnel with 22 non-organic city-paid
traffic aides. It is headed by a Police Superintendent assisted by 6 officers.
The City PNP enjoys the trust and confidence of the city populace, a manifestation
of its satisfactory performance. Consistent with the people’s high esteem is the
fact that the City Police Force was adjudged by the PNP National Headquarters
as the No. 1 Police Station in the region and first runner-up in the national
category for two consecutive years, aside from the fact that Tagbilaran City was
adjudged as one of the most peaceful city in the country.
Fire Protection
The
formal organization of the Fire Service of Tagbilaran City was initiated by then
Chief of Police Lt. Patricio Ordono Pizarras in 1947 with a simple fire station
established in the compound of Tagbilaran Municipal Hall.
The present day Tagbilaran City Fire station has a regular force of 37 firemen
augmented by 14 city-paid employees or a total of 51 personnel.
The passage of the Republic Act 6975 or DILG Act of 1990, the Bureau of Fire Protection
(BFP) was separated from the Integrated National Police (INP) and was created
as a separate public safety agency under the auspices of the Department of the
Interior and Local Government (DILG), separate from the Philippine National Police
(PNP) and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).
Tagbilaran City Fire Service is at present comprised of a main station located
in Barangay Cogon, and three (3) sub-stations located at the City Hall compound,
at Barangay Ubujan and at the City Airport. It is equipped with four (4) triple–combination
pumper trucks, two (2) mini-fire engines and an 8-ton elevating truck with water
pump.
In its fifty years of existence the Tagbilaran Fire Station has faithfully and
substantially carried out it mission to the satisfaction of its residents.
Despite lack of equipment and manpower limitation the city fire organization headed
by the City Fire Marshall, fire service is still very reliable and potent in combating
fires even with outmoded and dilapidated firefighting equipments which are mostly
donations. In fact, the the City Fire Station was adjudged recently as Fire Station
of the Year (year 2000) for Region 7. |
