Tagbilaran City’s first ever Liga ng mga Barangay Congress

The first ever Liga ng mga Barangay City Congress was held in Tagbilaran City today with all the barangay officials participating actively in the event. Themed with “Embracing Change towards a Better Barangay and Renewed Commitment for Good Governance,” the event aims to cascade the major flagship programs of Pres. Rodrigo Duterte such as the Community-Based Rehabilitation Program, Federalism, Anti-Drug Abuse Campaign, and MASA-MASID. Gov. Edgar Chatto also shared the overall plans for the development of province, Tagbilaran City as its main attraction with the Bohol Business Park at the Tagbilaran Airport and a new bridge connecting the City to Panglao. The governor said that strong barangays make for a strong province.

City Mayor John Geesnell “BABA” Yap on one hand gave his commendation to the organizers of the event, since it creates a commitment to strengthen the barangays through capacity development, networking and shared governance. “I am certain that this first-ever barangay Congress is a pro-active stride towards the teamwork and unity to ensure our City’s sustainable development and inclusive growth.”

Panfilo Bumaat, ably representing City Vice-Mayor Jose Antonio Veloso and ABC President Nicanor Besas were also in attendance. The event was organized in partnership with the Department of Interior and Local Government represented by Local Government Officer Mardonio Roxas, and Barangay Affairs and Constituency Unit Head Alvin Acuzar. Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco will be the main speaker of the 2-day event.
