Mayor Yap follows up the housing assistance from NHA

Last October 18, 2013, two days after the dreadful 7.2 magnitude earthquake, a special session was held to grant City Mayor John Geesnell “BABA” Yap the authority to enter into a  Memorandum of Agreement with the National Housing Authority (NHA) to avail of their Housing Materials Assistance Program (HOMA). Higino V. Adille and Grace V. Solis from the National Housing Authority (NHA) Region 7 explained the parameters of the housing assistance before Mayor Yap, Vice-Mayor Veloso and the City Councilors in the session. The NHA housing assistance program will provide Php5, 000.00 worth of hardiflex and G.I. sheets to all those constituents who have suffered partial or total damage in their houses.  The City Engineering together with the City Social and Welfare Development Office are the lead agencies tasked to identify and assess the damaged houses. Mayor Yap will issue a certification to the recipients based upon the lead agencies’ recommendations. But unfortunately, months have passed, no housing assistance from NHA was received. Mayor Yap initiated a follow-up by sending a letter to the Project Manager of the National Housing Authority, Engr. Gavino D. Figuracion. Quoting the letter, it stated,” I am humbly requesting your good office to please provide the undersigned your feedback and explanations behind the delay of the release of the said financial assistance. In doing so, my office can fully explain and provide the beneficiaries the latest information and reasons of the delay in the release of the forecited financial assistance from the NHA.”

The letter was personally delivered to the office of Engr. Figuracion in Cebu last September 24, 2014. . When asked, Engr. Figuracion said that the funds which were supposed to be allocated for Tagbilaran City was given to the Typhoon Yolanda victims. The NHA did not furnish the City Government an official communication concerning this query.
