Telephone Services
One
modern communication system that has been provided in the City is the telephone.
This communication system provide the City residents and the rest of Bohol greater
accessibility to communicate the local and international connections. In the City
there are three main telephone service providers: the Philippine Long Distance
& Telephone Co. (PLDT) and the Cruz Telephone Co. (CRUZTELCO), and recently the
Isla Communications Co. (ISLACOM). These companies provide a total number of more
than 7,696 working lines broken into: PLDT - 4,500, CRUZTELCO - 2,000 and ISLACOM
- 1,196. In 1993 there were only two service telephone providers, the PLDT and
the CRUZTELCO which provided a total of 3,292 lines or an increase of 57% for
the current year. Available payphones in the City both PLDT and CRUZTELCO have
a total of 43 working lines capable of international direct dialing.
The entry of cellular phone has penetrated the markets in the City and in the
province. The companies or the names that penetrated the cellular markets are
the Globe Telecom, Piltel (Mobiline), Smart Telecom and Islacom. Some hindrance
or constraints of using cellphones are the short area coverage because of the
limited number of cellsites and the geographical location and condition of the
area.
Telegraph Services
Part of the growth of the City is the important role provided by the telegraph
services. Our telegraph industry is one operated by the government and two by
private entities. The government-owned is provided by 42 base radio units directed
to the different municipalities of Bohol. On the other hand, the two privately-owned
services, the RCPI and the PT&T, has main offices located at Tagbilaran City.
Both companies have a combined total of 14 counter-office scattered in the different
municipalities using modern communications for telegraph messages.
Radio Facilities
The Bohol Law Enforcement Communication System (BLECS) plays an important role
in the assistance both the private and public individuals' need for communication.
Using radio transceivers, it is widely used as a mode of communication in the
City and in the Province of Bohol and all municipalities have these kind of operation
radios. |
