Power Generation and Distribution
The National Power Corporation (NPC), a government owned and controlled corporation,
is the major electric power supplier for the Province of Bohol and the City of
Tagbilaran. NPC started its operation sometimes in 1957 when the Hydroelectric
plant in the Municipality of Loboc started its operation to energize neighboring
municipalities including Tagbilaran.
Today NPC has three plants in operation: The Bohol Diesel Power Plant at Dampas
District, this City, with a rated capacity of 22.0 megawatts, the Diesel Power
plant Barge at Cortes town which has a rated capacity of 14.4 megawatts, and the
Loboc Hydroelectric plant at Tonton, in the town of Loboc, which has a capacity
of 1.20 megawatts.
For the power distributors of Bohol, the major distributors include: 1) Bohol
I Electric Cooperative, Inc. or BOHECO I which serves the areas of the northwestern
towns of Bohol, 2) BOHECO II, which serves the southeastern areas of Bohol, and
3) the joint-venture Bohol Light Company, Inc., (formerly the Provincial Electric
System, a department of the Provincial Public Utilities Department) which serves
power for the City of Tagbilaran. To date nearly all areas of the City are energized
except for the far flung barangay of San Isidro and Cabawan where secondary lines
are not available or very far away from houses and the poor household owner cannot
afford for an electric connection. |
