Mayor Dan Lim Gives Senior Citizens a Big Boost
Lolo receives a birthday cake on his birthday, Lola can now enjoy free movies three times a week. Their hospitalization and medications are free. What more can you ask for?
Engineer Frederick Go, president of the Federation of Senior Citizens in Tagbilaran City proudly boasts of the benefits that the senior citizens receive from the City Government. Being at the helm of the organization, Mr. Go regularly monitors the need of their members, he then reports it to the Office of the City Mayor where they can discuss and plan projects to address the need.
He is truly grateful for the Mayor’s concern towards them. Just imagine, these elderly are already unemployed, most of them are just asking for support from their children, so the Blue Card program which gives free hospitalization and the Botika sa Katawhan which gives them free medicines are a real blessing!
The Purok Health Workers is also beneficial. They do not need to go to the City Health Office to avail of the services, these elderly could be checked up and attended to right at their doorstep!
“Kasi na-observe ni mayor na hindi na makapunta iyung senior citizen sa mga health center, marami nang dahilan, mahina nang maglakad.”
This may sound morbid – but aside from these, the City Government is also giving free coffins and groceries. Small as it may seem, but these can really help them in their most saddest time. In fact, some senior citizens from nearby towns are registering in the city just to avail of these benefits. As of writing, there are already 3000 recipients and there are still applications in process.
