Tourism
The
City of Tagbilaran plays a vital role in tourism development
of Bohol being the main gateway to the island province. As
such it has positioned herself as the facilities provider
of the visitors and tourists in transit to tourist destinations.
Tagbilaran City is the most appropriate to play such role
having relative advantages as follows:
| 1. |
The City has the only
airport in the province sanctioned by the Air Transportation
Office of the Department of Transportation and Communication.
At present, there are two airline companies serving
the province namely: the Asian Spirit and Philippine
Airlines. Asian Spirit has a daily flight for Cebu and
direct to Manila, while PAL has direct flights for Manila
ten (10) times weekly. |
| 2. |
The port of Tagbilaran
is the cleanest, most spacious and the best there is
in Bohol. Wide range support facilities could be availed
of like the terminal, impounding space, parking space
and eateries. In 1998 the insular port of Tagbilaran
was adjudged as one of the region's healthy port by
the Department of Health. It maintains a regular route
to Manila and fastcrafts plying Cebu, Dumaguete and
Cagayan de Oro. |
| 3. |
It has the hotel facilities
for visitors and tourist who wish to make a short sojourn
in the City of Friendship. |
Except Cebu Province which is already a recognized melting
pot of the region, Bohol surpasses Negros Oriental and Siquijor
in terms of volume of domestic and international visitors.
No doubt all of these visitors passed thru Tagbilaran City
in their visit to the Bohol tourist sites.
The most essential among the tourists' need is accommodation
wherein the City of Tagbilaran is capable of meeting the demand.
The more recent hotels in the city are already in par with
Cebu or Manila. Easily, Tagbilaran could accommodate about
three thousand visitors at one time.
